Bogura City Corporation has approved 43 development packages worth close to Tk20 crore for infrastructure work across all 21 wards of the city, karatoa.com.bd reports.
The schemes, taken up under the Local Government Division's Annual Development Programme, cover road reconstruction, cement concrete (CC) and bituminous flexible surfacing (BFS) roads, reinforced cement concrete (RCC) drains and boundary walls.
According to karatoa.com.bd, contractors were selected through e-tender followed by an open lottery, held on 20 September, which the corporation says was intended to ensure full transparency.
The total approved estimated cost of the packages is Tk20,92,51,297, while the total accepted contract value came to Tk19,95,24,032.15 through open bidding.
Why it matters
The corporation says roads in many of these wards had been neglected for a long time, and residents faced severe hardship from waterlogging during the monsoon. Completing the road and drainage work is expected to establish more durable transport links and ease long-standing flooding in the affected areas.

Contractors told to finish on time
The corporation's engineering department said the lottery-based selection of contractors was carried out impartially and transparently. Contractors have been directed to begin work promptly and to finish within the stipulated time while maintaining quality.
The authority warned that any irregularity or compromise on work quality would bring strict legal action.
Watch for work start dates and progress on the ground, particularly the drainage schemes in the low-lying wards.
